Objectives

  1. Basic, strategic and applied research for growth of agriculture and allied fields.
  2. Post-graduate teaching & research and development of human resource.
  3. Developing and strengthening collaborative linkages with national/international organizations in mutual areas of interest in research and teaching.
  4. To serve as a centre for academic excellence in the area of Post-Graduate education in Biotechnology.
  5. To provide national leadership in Biotechnological research through the development of new concepts and technologies.

Thrust Areas

  1. Genetic diversity analysis and characterization of unexplored regional biodiversity.
  2. MAS and Molecular breeding for economically important traits.
  3. Standardization of protocols for tissue culture regeneration and multiplication of economically important plants.
  4. Adopting proteomics based approaches for identification of novel proteins involved in biotic/abiotic stress tolerance.
  5. Doubled haploid breeding for introgression of genes against major biotic and abiotic stresses in crops.
  6. Use of DNA recombinant technology for development of transgenics of crops for specialty traits.
